New Year, New Me, New Blog

Hey there writerly friends!

So, if you’ve visited my blog before now, you’ll notice that I did some serious redecorating (i.e. I took down everything). For a reason why I would do something so rash, please reference the title of this post. I mean, let’s face it: I wasn’t keeping up with this blogging thing at all. Part of that was because I was in mourning for my favorite English teacher, and I lost a lot of my will to blog after his death. You’ll notice that I kept the blog entry about him up, because, as I enter this new chapter of my life, I’d like to think that he’s cheering me on and I want to make sure everybody knows how big of a role he played in my life. Mr. Nevins was and always will be a big inspiration to me.

Anyway, in this new year I’ve already made a few good strides to accomplishing the things I’ve been wanting to accomplish for a while now. The first is that I’ve started a YouTube channel, where I vlog about… well, basically all of the stuff that I was blogging about. Plus more! So if you want to check that out, click HERE. The channel is doing great so far, and I’ve pre-recorded all of my videos through May, so I have no excuse to not post them. I’m very excited about my channel and all of the possibilities it holds. The second thing I’ve done is send my novel off to a literary agent. This was actually sometime in November or December, and the agent didn’t end up deciding to represent my book, but she gave me some great advice for my novel which I’m now implementing.

This leads me to the part of this post where I explain what I’ll be posting on here from now on, since all of my old content has been adapted into videos. I want this blog to be a place where I can share with any interested parties the progress of my novel (and any and all future novels). I’ll share with you, in real time, any of the obstacles or revelations I have while writing, and we as writers can join together to discuss these things. At first I’ll probably have to be somewhat vague about the content of my novel for the sake of protecting my intellectual property, but don’t worry, I’ll still have plenty to talk about. And if/when my book is published, then I’ll be able to go more into detail about it.

Words cannot express how excited I am to be pushing forward with all of the things I’ve been wanting to do for a while now. The thing about being successful in your endeavors is that it doesn’t just take motivation. It also takes discipline. That’s something I’ve never been good at, but I’m really working hard to get better at it, and so far the results look promising. I mean, my novel is basically complete (aside from the rewrites that I’m working through right now), something that I never thought I’d be able to do. Procrastination is my first, middle, and last name after all. But I was able to finish my novel not because I had a burst of inspiration, but the discipline to keep going even when I wasn’t motivated. And that’s something I’ll always be proud of.

So go ahead and hit that follow button if you haven’t already, and you’ll be emailed every time I post a new blog entry! I don’t plan on having a set schedule here like I do on my YouTube channel. I’ll most likely just make a post whenever I have something to say. I’d like this blog to be a nice, relaxed environment for us writers (and readers) to talk and share our experiences with each other. I think all of us writerly folk need a place like that.

I guess this is the part where I sign off. I think I’ll probably stick to the one I’ve been using on my YouTube channel, because, frankly, I really like it. So, I hope you all have a beautiful day, and I’ll see you next time! Bye!
